We’re absolutely delighted to share some brilliant news with our community – Ashington Town Football Club has been awarded a £5,000 grant from Ashington Town Council to launch a brand-new weekly sports skills programme for local children.

Starting this October, we’ll be running fun and inclusive sessions at Hirst Park Playzone for 4 and 5 year-olds, giving our youngest residents the chance to get active, learn new skills, and most importantly – enjoy themselves!

As the last junior-only football club in Ashington officially registered with both the League and the FA, this support means the world to us. We’re passionate about creating opportunities for children to develop a love of sport from the very start of their journey. Research shows that taking part in organised sport helps young people grow in confidence, build friendships, and develop lifelong healthy habits - and that’s exactly what we want to offer here in Ashington.

Thanks to this funding, we’ll be able to appoint a project leader and fund a facilitator to run the sessions. Even better, this role may be taken on by one of our current ATFC players or parents - giving us the chance to develop a young person or adult from within our own club, while at the same time providing an amazing experience for our youngest community members.

We believe these sessions will:

⚽ Help children build confidence and social skills

⚽ Give them a positive, early introduction to sport

⚽ Encourage lifelong participation in football and physical activity

⚽ Support the future growth of Ashington Town Football Club

This is a really exciting step forward for us as a club and for the local community. We can’t wait to see Hirst Park PlayZone filled with happy, active children this autumn, taking their very first steps in football and we are extremely grateful to the team at Hirst Park for allowing us to hire the space.

We’d like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Ashington Town Council for their support and commitment to community wellbeing. With their help, we’re looking forward to giving our youngest players the best possible start in sport - and who knows, maybe even the next Ashington footballing star will begin their journey right here!

Keep an eye on our website and social media channels for more details on how to get involved.

Together, let’s give Ashington’s children a strong, healthy, and joyful start in sport.
